Your Home Business Budget Foundation

Why a Budget is Important. Let it be your guide from beginning to end.

Starting your own home business is a very tricky proposition. Starting your own enterprise is exciting, but it is also inherently full of risk. Enter discipline. Unless you get yourself going on the right foot, then the chances of achieving success are very small.

Conversely, as long as you have the right foundation, and keep working on that foundation, success is almost an automatic thing. It is vital that you run your home business on a strict budget, if you aspire for long term success. Strictly budget your time and your money.

As little as one hour a day, everyday, is enough to make your personal business get better everyday and grow steadily to keep your confidence up. Avoid distractions.

One of the most important parts of running your business is operating on a budget of money and time. Every ad and every supply and tool you buy must earn the value put into it. This is a golden rule that can make you successful as you are going to be at any business.

Many men and women, mostly unsuccessful ones, prefer going with the flow rather than with actually setting goals and budgets. For the most part, this attitude is a mistake. Unless you have an incredible memory and unnatural clear sightedness, planning for both the present and the future is a prerequisite to success.

No matter how you define that elusive concept. Remember, no sloppy ad, supply or equipment buys. Check everything out scrupulously before putting your hard earned funds into it. Always shop for better prices and quality with every purchase you make.

Because this article is about home businesses, we will begin by defining success as the growth and eventual profitability of your particular business. By growth we mean that the business will expand, hopefully outgrowing your home and eventually participating in the corporate arena or whichever one you feel comfortable to work in.

By profitability, we mean that the business will become a cash generating machine, so much so that you attain financial freedom, and never have to work a single day again for someone else, if you do not feel like it. You will be your own woman or man.

This article argues that in order to achieve growth and profitability, discipline is needed, and plans must be made and acted upon. I cannot harp on and emphasize this enough to you.

Crafting your budget

One of the most important plans you must conceptualize is that of your budget. Many businesses, even if they have great ideas and wonderful products, still fail for lack of proper planning and efficient allocation of resources. Do not let this happen to you. Only a home business on a strict budget can ever be truly successful.

First, make it a habit to write down, both what you earn and what you spend, on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. A common stenographer notebook will be perfect for this. Make a different page for every expense. Every expense and every sale must be recorded so you know where you are everyday. This is the least that you can do.

Look over what you have written down and you will easily see the areas that can be improved upon, especially in the expense column. It is astonishing how many expenses we never notice until we get them down in paper. As the business grows larger, accounting knowledge might be needed. If you have neither the time nor the inclination to acquire the knowledge yourself, find someone who does.

Second, analyze the figures and determine the areas where you can control costs, and where you should add capital. Every business has areas that generate above average returns, as well as areas that under perform. As much as possible, redirect your resources to the projects and ideas that give you the most return. You will quickly start to learn this from experience.

Many years of experience have frequently given me the positive experience of having the lowest cost item or ad working for me best.

The great secret here is to, are you ready? Shop around for the best buy and do not let your emotions run wild on you when you read or hear presentations that have wild claims or will not give you the whole detail story until you pay them first. Hah! Never do it. Give me the details or forget about it. You do not need to take unnecessary risks.

Lastly, stick to your budget. Never forget this. A plan not acted upon is essentially useless, and a budget not followed is as useful as a page of doodles. Once you have written down and finalized your budget, do not make any departures from it unless absolutely necessary. Always have a solid reason for doing so.

Be disciplined. It is the only way you will get anywhere. By running your home business on a focused budget, you are securing your future at a small expense to the present and a nice profit in the future.

Why Start a Home Based Internet Business

After the crisis that has occurred in the financial markets over the past few months why would anyone want to start a home based internet business? We just saw well established, long running, profitable businesses go into bankruptcy or merge with others to keep afloat.

So what happens when corporations go bankrupt or merge? People, like you and me, lose their jobs. Most of the people will see this job loss as a crisis, however there will be a small number of people seeing it as an opportunity.

No, I am not crazy. I was taught at a young age that if you encounter a problem there is a solution for it, and if there is a crisis there is always an opportunity. It is just a matter of perspective.

Now that your entire life has been turned upside down you have the perfect opportunity to take a very real and serious look at just what it is you really want in your life. That means your personal life, work life, financial well being, and health and welfare of yourself and your family.

This opportunity means that you have the chance to restructure your whole life. Perhaps you see yourself spending more time with your family having fun. Or you may want to travel, get a new house, or just do whatever it you want to do when you want to do it. But, how can you do all those things without a job?

Why not look at working from home? Did you know that we are at the perfect time in economic growth to start a home based business? Did you know that home based businesses are one of the fastest growing portions of the economy? Did you know that the potential for using the internet for home based business is just in its infancy?

So know that you know the facts lets look at how you will benefit when you start up your own home based internet business.

Firstly, you will save time and money working at home. No more getting up real early, spending two or more hours a day commuting, wasting gas while driving, not to mention that you will be causing less damage to the environment. Just imagine arriving at your desk, just off of your kitchen, coffee in hand, relaxed and refreshed after a nice breakfast instead of arriving at an office, muttering and snarling like a mad man, a half an hour late, after being struck in traffic and mayhem.

Secondly, you get to set your own working schedule. Plus you decide which projects you want to work on, after all you are the boss.

Thirdly, you decide how much money you want to make and how you want to make it. These are only a few of the reasons a home based internet business benefits you.

One of the most important things you need to look at when working your internet business is affiliating with a reputable company. One that offers a multimedia training system, exclusive products, great backend support, excellent commission structure and affordable start up fees.

With the proper program in place all you should need to do is advertise, market and bring in buyers to purchase the products or services you provide. You will have to devote some time and effort to your business, but it is well worth it.

So why not start your internet business today? This is your opportunity to live the life you have always dreamed of.

Writing a Business Plan: Where Do You Start?

Are you considering starting up a business? If so, have you started writing your business plan yet? If so, have you thought about how you are going to go about it or what you should include in it? If you are unfamiliar with business plans, particularly what they include, you should carefully take the time to research what is commonly found in a business plan. Doing so will may make it easier for you to find the motivation to get going and ultimately come up with a plan that will fit your needs.

Here are some of the key points to include in your business plan.

What Your Business Is All About

Your starting point is the type of business you are interested in setting up. For example, are you interested in starting a retail store, an online store, or a cleaning service? Explain why you feel you will be a success in that sector and provide detail on how exactly the business will operate. Here you will also outline the products or services you plan on selling, and at the same time describe what makes them unique compared to what the competition is selling.

Where Are You Based?

The next point to cover is where your business will be located. If you are planning on starting an internet business then that's very simple - your home is probably the answer! If you are planning on running a more traditional business then describe where you are planning to base yourself. Is your premises going to be leased, rented or owned?

Carefully consider the pros and cons of each of these options and clearly state in your plan why you have chosen the route you have.

Will You Be Working Alone?

The reader of the plan needs to know who will you be running your business; is it you or will you hire someone else to run it for you? Naturally you will be the backbone of the business but if you are hiring staff it's good for the reader to know the number and quality of the staff you will be hiring. It is these people who have the ability to make or break your business. But there is also a cost consideration - if you have to buy in the very best people what pressure will this put on the business?

Where's Your Market?

In addition to your business expenses, it is also important to focus on how you plan on generating income for your business. That is why your business plan should include details of your advertising and marketing strategy; in other words how you are going to reach your target audience. Your target audience is the type of person or company who you think is most likely to become a client or a customer of yours. In the plan outline what they look like. What are their needs or wants and how do you plan to satisfy them?

Who are You Competing Against?

Ignore your competitors at your peril, both in real life and when writing your business plan. Addressing the competitive threat is extremely important, especially if you are planning on using your business plan to obtain financing; your bankers will be well aware of who your competitors are, so don't try to pretend they don't exist!

Financial lenders and investors will want to make sure that your business will be a success and that success can depend on the strength or otherwise of the competition. That is why it is advisable you obtain an accurate count of businesses in your area that are offering the same products or services as you are, as well as the prices that those products and services are being offered at.

The above mentioned points are just a few of the many areas you will want to cover when writing your business plan. You will find a complete guide in my e-book ‘The Secrets of Writing a Killer Business Plan'.

Even if you are not planning to obtain finance for your start up business think carefully about writing a business plan - it is well worth the effort to invest your time.

Why Tough Decisions are a Blessing in Disguise

I have a question for you: What does it mean to be alive?

Some might say, "Things that are alive can move, and things that are dead can't".

Well not quite. After all, the rocks and mountains move during an earthquake, but they are certainly not alive.

Others might say, "Things that are alive can think, and things that are dead can't".

We're getting closer, but a tree or jellyfish doesn't have a brain, and it is still alive.

How about "Things that are alive make decisions, and things that are dead don't".

Now we've got it! All living things make decisions. Even the tree, which isn't "intelligent", can still make a crude form of decision when it decides to grow toward the sunlight. Meanwhile, a rock will never make any type of decision whatsoever.

You might be wondering what this has to do with starting a business, and the answer is simple: every time you make a decision, you become more alive.

I've written in the past about the importance of taking control of your work life, and how it can reduce the amount of stress you have.

I talked about creating events in your life and moving toward what you want, instead of reacting to events and moving away from what you don't want. And the way you can start doing that is by making more decisions.

People sometimes ask me, "How do you build the confidence to start a business, and take the scary step of quitting your job?"

My reply is to make more decisions. In fact, every time you make a decision you build confidence. The tougher the decision and the scarier it is, the more confidence you will get.

A man named Dr. Paul taught me this concept, and it's wonderful to apply it toward business. You can even think of confidence as a measurable unit of currency that you get each time.

Are you nervous about calling that potential customer and asking him to buy? Decide to do it, and you just got 50 units of confidence.

Are you scared to death of speaking in public at a conference where a number of prospects will be attending? Decide to do it, and you just got 200 units of confidence.

Are you petrified about quitting your job to work full time on your company? If that's what you really want, then decide to do it, and you just got 1000 units of confidence!

Of course, the numbers are different for everyone, but the principle holds true. Build your confidence in business by taking every opportunity to make a decision. The scarier the decision, the bigger the opportunity for growth, and the more alive you will feel.

Your Guide Before Starting a Home Business

When trying to start a home business it is easy to fail. Many people don't look into fields that are of interest to them. You should enjoy what you are about to embark on because you will be spending a lot of time in this field. You cannot just hit a hot spot and think it will sell. Just because you love something doesn't mean it will sell either. Make sure that what you pick has a market. Many people pick over-saturated markets in fields that they have no clue about. If you have no idea what you are writing or having some one else write about, then you cannot expect to draw up any real business. People assume that making a web site and sticking up a few banners will be the extent but they are wrong. Like any other job you have to dedicate time and money to it.

Most people want to see money and not spend it. How can you expect others to invest in you and your business if you won't? You will have to invest in yourself to see results. You don't have to spend thousands but you will you will have to spend some money to get seen and heard. The tools you will need to use cannot be cut out either. People think that it is all about knowing how to build a site but that is not what sells your product. Books can be a great tool and a very inexpensive way of learning how to run your own business. If you want to succeed with little investment try a few of these tips.

* Sell a product you know about. You will not be able to answer people's questions if you have very limited knowledge about what you are trying to sell. This will also get you a bad name. The more familiar you are with what you are selling and its potential uses, the better off you are. You are the one trying to get people to buy, therefore you must know your stuff.

* Find a market that is hot but not over spent. You don't want to mark down your product or service so much that you don't make a profit. If you find the right balance then you can generate good money.

* Use high content article to inform your customers and keep them coming back. The number one business killer is a site with all graphic that takes hours to load and has no real substance. You want simple and highly informative article. You will need to be willing to write or pay someone to write for you.

There are also tons of little tricks to selling that make life good. You really just have to be willing to work hard at making your own success happen. If you want something you will have to go grab it. There is no real way to make money without putting in some kind of effort.

You Can Do Internet Business

You may have heard it said, many times, that there is money to be made on the Internet.

Indeed, there are millions of men and women who are making good money using the internet business route.

Yet, you also know that there are a lot of frauds out there who will promise you the blue off the sky in return for some of your Taco Belle burrito supreme cash?

Who makes all these dishonest human beings? I honestly wish I knew.

It can be oh so hard to tell the good guys and gals from the bad and dumb ones.

Similarly, do you have all the tools you need to do your work? You know, the personal and emotional stuff in addition to the money stuff.

Read on, if you are brave, and find out if you have the right stuff that it takes to work from home with an Internet electric business.

Have you done your research? The investigate before you invest steps?

There are so many great looking Internet business opportunities that it may seem like an easy task to pick one or another. Unfortunately no.

Some are excellent but the catch is that you need big dollars and big technical programmer skills to do them. You also need powerful personal skills.

Do not deceive yourself into thinking you can do one of these and then end up feeling really depressed when you face the facts and really cannot bring home the bacon and do them.

There are also a lot of scam artists out there who will want your money and will not be able to help you work from home after all.

They do not care if you lack the skills and training to do these businesses. They do not even care if you die.

They just want your money. Sad but true.

Do your triage or reality research on any Internet business diligently before you invest in them.

For example, look to see if the website will tell you the details of the business. If it is vague, or promises you that all you need to do is get people to download a free ebook, the odds are high that this is not a lucrative business at all.

If they say they will give you all the facts after you sign up for this, that and the other reason, what do you do? Very good! You say, bye, bye and never do any contact with them again because they are liars.

Similarly, if the entire website is nothing but a gigantic ad for the ebook the webmaster has written, you are not actually going to start an Internet business, but simply buy a book.

Some will be good. If all the links on the web site are highly related to it, that is a good sign. It shows they are putting in long and hard work to make it work.

I do not know why but a very high percentage of the time, it turns out to be the cheapest programs or opportunities that have some little mistakes on their website that are good.

Those that sometimes make you wonder if they know what they are really doing are sometimes the ones that turn out to be good opportunities.

Maybe it is because they are just starting out and look that way.

If they answer all your questions though, politely, it might be worth a serious look.

If they say you do not have to rush to sign up today but check us out, this is another good sign.

So do your investigation research, and you will soon be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. You will feel especially good when you pass up a well researched opportunity that later folds because of dishonesty.

Do you have the tools? If you do not at first, but are willing to work like crazy, you can get them in time.

Let us say that your Internet business will be web design. Designing web pages is not a very difficult feat, but it does require some specialized software and enough memory to ensure that your computer will not slow down if you are uploading large graphics or files.

Ask yourself honestly, can you learn to do this? If not, sorry, you have to let it go.

Is your equipment new enough that it could handle this kind of business? A five to ten year old computer will not have enough capacity to handle the electric space needed. Can you afford a new one?

Do you have the software you need to get started? Can you afford a new computer and the software, if need be, to get started?

Before you start advertising your new work from home Internet business, make sure that you have all your ducks in a row, so that you will not have to turn away any business!

That is everything must be prepared and ready to go. If not, then do not start until it is, okay?

Do you have a reliable Internet setup? Is your usp worth a hoot? If not, it has to go.

Signs of this are frequently dropping you off line, error messages, problems that take a long period of precious time to solve, and other time wasting delays you will not be able to afford.

Granted, dial up is more and more going by the wayside. Like the brontosaurus or Trex.

But if you still do rely on a dial up connection, you need to be honest with yourself and assess if you are truly able to rely on the connection.

Does it work quickly and efficiently, or does downloading take long periods of time? Do you lose your connection frequently, or is it pretty solid?

If you do not think you have a reliable Internet connection, you might need to drop it like a bad habit and get into DSL or Broadband. Dial up is history baby. Do not start an internet business with it. Got that?

So go ahead and take stock in what you have, and see if you are ready to work from home with your very own Internet business.

If not then just take your time and get the personal and equipment stuff, one by one, as you can afford to. Then you are truly ready to go for it and fly.

Writing an Excellent Business Plan

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to start a new company, and several other factors that require quite a bit of effort and hard work. Before a potential business owner actually starts the company, he or she must carefully plan out the basics and specifics of what the company is going to do and how it will do those things. Preparation is the key to starting and maintaining a successful business.

Entrepreneurs who have high ambitions of creating and owning a new company must begin the process by creating a rough business plan. A business plan helps the new owner to sort out all of the details and necessary arrangements of the company. The plan itself covers many different principles of the company's regulations and inner workings.

The first creation of the plan will not be perfect, but it should include a general outline of what the business is going to accomplish. After some time, however, it should be trimmed, edited, and solidified until it eventually becomes an official business document. With a professionally created business plan, the implementation and creation of the actual company can more effectively take place.

Once they have realized the true importance of having a business plan, new business owners must also learn how to write a business plan and exactly what kind of information to put into it. There are many different things that can be included in the business plan that establish the foundation of success and growth for the company. It must be organized extremely well and should be designed so that anyone can read and understand the specifics of the business.

A plan's introduction is exactly what it says it is: an introduction to the company. The introduction should carefully outline the goals and objectives of the company and put them into phrases known as mission statements or company slogans. If a business theme or motto can be created and put into the business plan, this will greatly enhance the productivity of the business in the future. Every owner and employee of the company will know, from the very beginning, where the company is headed and what direction that it should go.

The most important part of the company's business model must also include specific directions on how the company will achieve its goals and objectives. It describes absolutely everything that the company will do, obtain, purchase, and sell in order to grow and be successful. Once again, these specific procedures and information should mainly revolve around the principle idea of the company's theme that was created and implemented at the beginning of the business plan.

At the very end of a company's business model it generally describes to people where the company will hopefully be in the next ten to fifteen years. This part of the business plan allows potential owners to express their future dreams and allows others to see what the future potentially holds for this specific business.

When properly written and implemented, the company's business model will ultimately impact the success of the company and will help sustain it in the future. Organization and compulsiveness are the keys to an effective business plan...
